Three Faces of Indonesia by Co Rentmeester, 1st Ed, HC DJ, Photography Bali Java
Three thousand islands cast along the edge of the Indian Ocean form a nation of over a hundred million souls, one of the most populous countries on earth. Stunning in its physical beauty, rich in natural resources, Indonesia struggles today to achieve its proper place in the world community. Hella S. Haasse and Co Rentmeester have now captured the spirit of this relatively unknown land by defining it in terms of three essential themes. The theme of people - the common people of the teeming cities and rural villages, how they live and work and play and die. The theme of land and resources, great natural treasures which are only just now beginning to be exploited; and the theme of culture, a culture infinitely complex and highly refined, which determines the attitudes of Indonesians toward themselves and the world outside. Contains 160 colour photographs.
